Crafting curiosity:  teaching goals

My dedication to the educational process stems from a distinct vision: creating interdisciplinary lessons that stimulate creativity, encourage critical thinking, and connect students to their interests across various disciplines. My goal is to provide experiences that foster curiosity, teamwork, and comprehensive development on both a personal and academic level. Whether they are examining patterns in nature, researching molecular structures, or learning about the emotional impact of color, students are motivated to investigate, inquire, and produce in my science or art classroom.

Empowering artistic exploration

The primary objective is to build interactive lessons that let students learn new art skills while also giving them the freedom to explore, experiment, and make meaningful choices in each unit. This approach directly addresses the Colorado Teacher Quality Standard that teachers plan and deliver effective instruction and create learning environments that promote student learning.

Measuring growth, fostering creativity

I determine the success of this goal by observing student work that demonstrates an understanding of lesson objectives and a successful application of learned skills to create unique artwork. We achieve this by carefully designing lessons that are both effective and engaging, utilizing both formative and summative assessments (including verbal checks) and promoting student choice and independent exploration within art activities. Mentor guidance, professional texts, personal research, and ongoing practice with feedback, honest and achievable continuous growth support this goal. This is in line with my mission of providing high-quality instruction.

Cultivating a safe and inclusive space

It is one of our main aims to build a classroom community where each child feels secure, accepted, and a real part of the group. . My art room is a place where we celebrate diversity, where we have personal connections through art.

Promoting a Growth Mindset for All Children

I believe this goal is met when students express comfort and support while creating art, as well as demonstrating readiness, engagement, and joy. Strategies include incorporating daily mindfulness and grounding activities, collaborating with students to create classroom norms, and using art to explore identity, culture, and personal experiences. This is made possible through collaboration with teachers, mentors, instructional coaches, and academic texts. This goal is both honest and attainable, as positive results are already visible, reflecting my personal values and life mission as an art educator. A growth mindset is crucial. Art is an effective tool for both creative expression and social-emotional learning, and these objectives consistently guide my daily teaching in accordance with the Colorado Teacher Quality Standards.
